چکیده
Description of Procedure or Service Percutaneous Vertebroplasty Percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) is an interventional radiology technique involving the fluoroscopically guided injection of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) through a needle inserted into a weakened vertebral body. The technique has been investigated as an option to provide mechanical support and symptomatic relief in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture or in those with osteolytic lesions of the spine, i.e., multiple myeloma or metastatic malignancies. Percutaneous vertebroplasty has also been investigated as an adjunct to surgery for aggressive vertebral body hemangiomas, as a technique to limit blood loss related to surgery. The technique has been used in all levels of the vertebrae, i.e., cervical, thoracic, and lumbar.

Sacral insufficiency fractures frequently cause significant pain and limit activities of daily living in patients with osteoporosis. Percutaneous vertebroplasty is a common procedure to alleviate the pain associated with thoracic and lumbar vertebral compression fractures. The sacral percutaneous vertebroplasty procedure (sacroplasty) has recently been introduced as an alternative to medical ma...
متن کاملSacroplasty versus vertebroplasty: comparable clinical outcomes for the treatment of fracture-related pain.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Little is known about the long-term clinical outcomes of sacroplasty, a relatively new minimally invasive percutaneous procedure for the treatment of sacral insufficiency fractures. The first purpose of the present study, therefore, was to investigate the effects of sacroplasty on pain, mobility, and activities of daily living (ADLs). A second purpose was to compare clini...
متن کاملEffects of Percutaneous Sacroplasty on Pain and Mobility in Sacral Insufficiency Fracture
OBJECTIVE Sacral insufficiency fracture (SIF) contributes to severe low back pain. Prolonged immobilization resulting from SIF can cause significant complications in the elderly. Sacroplasty, a treatment similar to vertebroplasty, has recently been introduced for providing pain relief in SIF. The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical short-term effects of percutaneous sacroplasty...

Percutaneous vertebroplasty is a promising therapeutic technique for pain control in patients with pathologic fractures of vertebral bodies. Percutaneous vertebroplasty is an appropriate treatment for vertebral pathologic fractures, which is resistant to other usual treatment. It is a useful and only choice in special cases, because of less tissue damage and there is no risk of open surgery and...
متن کاملPercutaneous Vertebroplasty in Iranian Patients with Osteoporotic Vertebral Fractures
Background: Osteoporotic compression vertebral fractures are common clinical problems. In those with refractory fractures, percutaneous cement augmentation has been suggested. The aim of this study was to evaluate the functional outcome of percutaneous vertebroplasty in Iranian patients with refractory osteoporotic fractures. Methods: We retrospectively studied 37 osteoporotic fractures in 28 p...
